    Postcard from Santa Marta, Colombia.
on Candace Rose Rardon on Sept. 15, 2014, 1:20 p.m.

The Santa Marta I’ve come to know doesn’t feel too especially historic, at least not after my initial week in Cartagena. What it feels like is local, unassuming, lived in, and for this reason I have grown to love it.

    Drawing connections in Cartagena.
on Candace Rose Rardon on Sept. 9, 2014, 8 a.m.

For isn’t seeing the truest, most important thing? And isn’t it the very reason we travel? To see the world for ourselves – with our own eyes and ears, and with our own hands and hearts.

    Summer’s Sketchbook 2014.
on Candace Rose Rardon on Sept. 2, 2014, 6:02 a.m.

From beautiful Vashon Island in the Pacific Northwest to the infinite beaches of the Outer Banks in North Carolina, I tried to pull out my sketchbook as often as possible during this stateside summer.

Illustrated inspiration from Book Passage Travel Writers Conference 2014.
on Candace Rose Rardon on Aug. 19, 2014, 6:02 a.m.

The past four days gifted me a series of phrases that have been circling in my head from the moment I heard them, so this year I thought – why not let Book Passage speak for itself?

An illustrated love letter to Vashon Island.
on Candace Rose Rardon on Aug. 6, 2014, 8:14 p.m.

As I studied the Puget Sound in my scooter's rear-view mirror, I realized then that the greatest gift that Vashon gave me this summer was the gift of reflection – the gift of looking back.

    Introducing my next sketching adventure!
on Candace Rose Rardon on July 21, 2014, 7:47 p.m.

It’s yet another lesson I’ve learned this year: As scary as the unknown can be – be it our future or simply a new corner of the world – it's up to us to finally fill in the blanks...not to mention our sketchbooks.

My one-year Etsy-versary: Notes on listening to the flow.
on Candace Rose Rardon on July 14, 2014, 5:28 p.m.

I’m learning that just because our dreams change and take on a different shape doesn’t mean we’re giving up on them – it simply means we’re listening to what’s working. We’re listening to the flow.

Notes from an island in the Puget Sound.
on Candace Rose Rardon on July 8, 2014, 7:36 p.m.

I keep thinking about the mysterious ways in which life often works – planting seeds when we least expect it, and then giving us equally unexpected opportunities to bring those seeds to fruition.

The day I lost my travel mojo.
on Candace Rose Rardon on July 1, 2014, 8:43 p.m.

We find our rhythms in life, and we fall out of them. We catch our buses and flights, and sometimes we miss them. We lose our travel mojo, and we get it back – at least that’s what I’m hoping happens soon.

A little birthday sketch by the sea.
on Candace Rose Rardon on June 17, 2014, 7:51 p.m.

My head is always filled with a thousand plans for the future, but as I dug my feet into the sand and sketched a place I've been calling home for nearly three decades now, I felt my mind grow still.

    Introducing Summer’s Sketchbook 2014.
on Candace Rose Rardon on June 9, 2014, 4:44 p.m.

If our inaugural Summer’s Sketchbook last year was any indication of what’s to come this summer, I couldn’t be more excited to see the sketches that unfold over the new few months.

One last look at Salt Spring Island.
on Candace Rose Rardon on June 2, 2014, 9:02 p.m.

It occurred to me this week that while I’ve shared sketch after sketch of Salt Spring, I’ve shared very little photos of it on the blog – and that perhaps you might enjoy a different look at the island.
